"one of the pieces of evidence that was seized from the suspect was his phone, and that phone is being gone through." other key evidence - the handgun police say they found on suspect jason brian dalton... the pistol - consistent with shell casings from all three crime scenes ...perhaps even more disturbing, the 'heavy duty' jacket - capable of concealing a pistol - ... ...which law enforcement says dalton bought less than three hours before the first attack. also, a veritable arsenal - a total of eleven rifles - investigators found at dalton's home... this, as one injured victim is still recovering, expected to survive... ...while another clings to life in the hospital. dalton family who are also suffering at this time, we want his family to know we don't hold anything against the family." i'm reid binion, reporting as investigators try to make sense of the horrific shootings ... it raises the question, just how safe are you when using a ride- sharing company like uber? kolo 8 news now's matt vaughan joins us in studio with more. it can be scary getting in a car with a total stranger. you don't what kind of emotional state the driver might be in when they pick you up ... and this person is responsible for getting you to your destination safely. ... uber's chief security officer recently stated that the suspected shooter in kalamazoo ... jason brian dalton ... passed a background check. police also said dalton did not have a criminal record. which makes you wonder ... how deep do companies like uber dig when doing background checks on their drivers? well according to uber's website ... it involves a search through criminal records at the county, state, and federal levels. the company uses a background screening agency called checkr ... which will search for a driver's name and addresses in a series of databases. some of the ways a person can be disqualified from driving for uber is if that person has been convicted in the last seven years for any number of crimes ... that includes d-u-i ... reckless driving ... hit and run ... violent crimes

a truce between some -- but not all -- of the groups fighting inside syria could go into effect this weekend. that's according to a western diplomat with knowledge of the talks. the white house says president obama called

michelle wilkins was seven months pregnant when prosecutors say lane lured wilkins to her home... brutally attacked her and killed the unborn baby as she cut the baby from the womb. but defense attorneys say it was a spontaneous act and say if lane is guilty-- it is of a lesser crime. a teenager injured in a helicopter crash-- caught on camera--has died. the 16-year-old boy was one of 5 people on board the chopper when it went down last thursday in hawaii. he was pulled from the water, still strapped into his seat. two other family members remain in the hospital. a third has already been released. the crash happened near the u-s-s arizona memorial in hawaii. shot a georgia business owner is now requiring that his employees get a concealed carry handgun permit and be armed. the company provides risk management services to aircraft insurers. lance toland says recent reports about crime concern him. so he decided to require

carry a weapon. once his employees get their licenses, he gives them a gun that has a rifled barrel. toland thinks several high-profile business owners with private planes may soon follow his lead and require their employees to carry guns, as well. the funeral for nevada senator debbie smith will be at sparks high school this sunday at noon. smith died sunday from brain cancer. her family asks in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the doctor marnie rose foundation, which supports brain tumor research. she began treatment for a malignant brain tumor one year ago. the democrat was was first elected to the state assembly in 2000 and won a seat in the senate in 2012. politicians from across the state have expressed sorrow over her passing. she was 60 years old. a construction site in melbourne is the scene
